The Enigmatic Foe released a new album, “Like an Ocean” and it sounds like a record made by someone who had to sit with a lot of heavy thoughts before turning them into songs. Across its 11 tracks, the album moves through distance, longing, mental pressure, loss, and the small hope that still stays alive after hard times. What makes the album work is how honest it sounds. It does not rush to be big at every moment. Instead, it lets the songs breathe and that gives the writing more room to land.

The album opens with “Something’s Wrong” a smooth and touching start that sets the tone from the first seconds. The vocals are soft and easy to take in while the lyrics carry a sadness that stays with you. The instrumentation in the background is gentle, but it adds enough color to make the track shine. It is the kind of opener that tells you this album will care more about mood, words, and small details than loud moves.

“Lover…Lover” brings a little more confidence into the record. The guitar work has a nice bite to it and the vocals sit in your ear in a beautiful way. The song has a simple idea, but that is part of its charm. There is also a nice sax sound in the mix that gives the track a fresh touch without taking attention away from the main melody. It is playful, warm, and very easy to return to.

“Autopilot” takes the album deeper into its sound. The vocals are easy to listen to, but the rich instrumentation takes more space here. Many little moments inside the production make the song grow with each listen. It has a full shape and the mix lets the instruments move around his voice in a great way.

“Conversations to Records” is one of the album’s strongest writing moments. The melodies are beautiful and the vocal delivery has a calm power that fits the lyrics so well. The song has a natural flow, almost like a memory being played back in real time. There is nothing cold or distant about it. Every line sounds personal and that makes the track one of the most touching parts of the album.

“I’ll Catch the Moon” opens with a nice acoustic guitar and keeps things simple from there. The calm sound works well with the honest writing and the soothing vocals make the track easy to sit with. “When Things Sour” follows that softer path too, but adds catchy vocal lines and smooth delivery. The melodies are gentle here and the instrumentation sits neatly in the mix, giving the song a clean and warm space.

“Geraldine” adds a little more lift. The production has some smart ideas and the lyrics and melodies are strong enough to make the song stand out right away. The performance here is one of the album’s best, full of character and confidence. “Teenagers” then brings a warmer emotional weight with soft vocals and production that rounds the sound in a very nice way.

“My Decline” is another highlight because of the acoustic instrumentation and the rich voice at the center of it. The delivery sounds great and personal. “Algorithm” brings great sound design around the vocals, with strong mixing and production choices that give the track a modern edge. “SOS” closes the album in a rich and unique way. It gives the record the ending it needs. not too loud, not too easy, but honest and complete.

I really love this artist and his music. “Like an Ocean” is a thoughtful album with smooth vocals, strong writing, warm melodies and careful production. It is simple in the best way, but never empty. Every song adds something to the journey.
