Tomas Rodriguez released his new album “Whispered Awakening” and it is one of those records that speaks softly but stays close after the last note ends. Across 8 tracks, the Brooklyn-based guitarist and composer builds a warm world with just enough space for every note to breathe. I really like how nothing here is rushed and nothing is placed without care. The album moves with patience, memory, and quiet beauty, while Tomas’ guitar is the clear voice at the center.
The opener, “Dialogue” starts the album in a gentle and calm way. The guitar tone is beautiful from the first seconds and the atmosphere has a soft glow around it. Tomas does not need a big entrance to catch attention. He lets the melody open the door slowly, then guides the listener through small changes in mood. There is peace here, but also movement, like a quiet conversation that grows deeper the longer it goes.
“Reflection” follows with a title that truly matches the music. The piece has a thoughtful touch, and the playing carries a personal weight without becoming heavy. It is the kind of track you want to replay because it gives you something new each time. The notes are clean, warm, and honest, and the space between them is just as important as the playing itself. Rodriguez knows when to speak through the guitar and when to let silence do part of the work.
“Susurros del Despertar” is one of the album’s strongest moments. The sound design is rich but still simple, and the production keeps the focus on the performance. The mix is great and polished, with every detail sitting in the right place. The cajón and djembe add life and shape, while the acoustic guitar leads with grace. It is a beautiful title track because it captures the album’s main spirit.
“Landó para Maite” brings a bright change in color. Written for Tomas’ Peruvian wife, the track has a sweet and catchy tone, with a simple arrangement that works because it never overfills the room. The cajón adds a natural pulse and the guitar lines move with care and charm. It is easy to enjoy from the first listen, but it also has enough detail to keep you coming back.
“Al Maestro Toumani” is another special piece. He pays respect to the late Malian master Toumani Diabaté, and you can hear that respect in the way the guitar moves. The playing is gentle, shining, and full of small turns that bring a kora-like beauty to the sound. He does not copy but he answers with his own voice. That is what makes the track so strong.
“Tamalabaa” and “Guaguancó” are two of the most replayable tracks on the album. Both carry lovely melodies and a strong sense of place and they still fit perfectly inside Rodriguez’s personal world. “Tamalabaa” moves in circles with a warm, searching spirit, while “Guaguancó” has a more playful pulse and a natural lift. These pieces show how much control Tomas has, not only as a guitarist but as an artist who understands flow, rhythm, and mood.
“Mélancolie” closes the album in the most perfect way. It is tender, bittersweet, and beautifully played, giving the album a soft ending that stays in your head for a long time. By the time the final note fades, the record has already shown what makes this artist so special. He is a talented and deeply skilled guitarist, but more than that, he plays like someone who understands the story inside each sound. Whispered Awakening is calm, detailed, and full of heart, a record made by a true master of the acoustic guitar.
