Layer Cake landed with a new single, “Numb” and the Brisbane band quickly shows why they are worth watching. The song has a bright pulse, but there is also a soft sadness under the surface, which gives it a nice balance. The melodies are easy to catch and the chorus opens up with real charm carried by clean vocals and warm instrumentation behind them. Nothing sounds crowded here and I really loved the sound design. The mix is polished, the vocal delivery is great, and every part gives the song more life. The lyrics deal with those quiet moments when you smile outside but carry something heavier inside. Layer Cake brings that idea with care, heart and a sound that stays in your head after the last note.
