May Payne has released a beautiful new single titled “The News” and I think it’s safe to say that she has one of the best pop voices in the indie scene. She sings with honesty, but there is also real strength in every line. The song starts gently with warm guitars around her voice, then the drums and harmonica add more colour as it grows. I loved the chorus because her delivery becomes even stronger there. The song comes from a painful breakup, when she learned her ex had already moved on. Payne turns that shock into something personal and easy to connect with from the first listen.
