Travis Straw has been on my playlist a lot lately, and his “Going to Church” EP gave me so much to enjoy. Today, I wanted to write about two songs from it, starting with “Non-Denominational”. This one has a lively sound from the start, with strong vocals sitting nicely over the music. I really liked the vocal melodies and the way the song keeps moving without becoming too busy. The production is clean and detailed, while the writing adds personality to the whole track. There is care behind every part and Travis once again shows why I enjoy covering his music.
The second song I picked is “Protestant”, and this one takes things in a softer direction. His rich voice works beautifully with the simple music behind him, giving the words great space. I loved the chorus. It stayed with me after the song ended, and his smooth delivery makes it even better. The song looks at finding fellowship and clarity at a bar, almost like going to church. That idea fits the EP. The production is clean, the writing is strong and I always enjoy hearing what Travis creates.
