In these busy days of August, Lynn Hollyfield released an album that came at the perfect time for me. Electronic music has been everywhere lately, and I needed something quieter to sit with. “Diving In” gave me exactly that, with gentle acoustic sounds, rich writing, and a voice that makes every song worth following.
The album opens with the title track, my favorite song here, and I have already played it more times than I can count. Her voice is rich, warm, and soulful, while the soft instrumentation gives her so much space. I really like how nothing sounds crowded. The production is clean and careful, but it still keeps the natural character of the performances.
In this album, Lynn writes about life, love, loss, change, and the choices we make along the way. Those subjects could easily become heavy but her delivery keeps the record inviting. The harmonies are beautiful and the acoustic guitar work adds small details that become more noticeable with every listen.
“Blindspot” and “For Emma” were two other highlights for me. They bring different moods to the album, but both became an important part of my listening experience. I would even call them the backbone of the record.
This album is more than a group of songs placed together. It sounds like a complete journey through her world as a songwriter. Her voice, writing and gentle arrangements work closely together, making this album a welcome break from the noise of August and one I will happily return to again. Enjoy and make sure to share it with your friends!
